Last year there were a number of reports of how women, women politicians, and women journalists were disproportionately targeted for abuse on online platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. One of those reports was a Wilson Center report entitled Malign Creativity: How Gender, Sex and Lies Are Weaponized Against Women Online.

This week, one of the authors of the Wilson Center report, Nina Jankowicz, appeared on NPR’s On Point to discuss the report and her new book, How to Be A Woman Online: Surviving Abuse and Harassment, and How to Fight Back.

The show also featured:

• Saleen Martin, a USA Today reporter who was the target of harassment following her coverage of the toppling of Confederate monuments in Portsmouth, Virginia for the Virginia Pilot; and
• Brianna Wu, the developer who was at the center of the storm in Gamergate.
